Tell us about Changes to your Property - It could affect your Rateable Value

The business rates for your property are a large overhead. They are based on the rateable value which is fixed every five years. The last time was 1st April 2005. There are a variety of circumstances in which an appeal can be made against the rateable value.

A change to the property, or the locality in which it is situated, are examples of such circumstances.

You can help to reduce your business rates, and therefore your operating costs, by notifying us of any changes to your property or the locality that are happening now or that have occurred since 1st April 2005 by completing the form below.

Some examples of changes to the property are...

  • The property is being refurbished or altered and cannot be used
  • Building works that might be causing nuisance or disturbance to other parts of your property
Some examples of changes to the locality are...
  • Road works (including works to the pavement or street furniture) at the front, or within close proximity, of the property making access difficult
  • Road works some distance away which might have altered taffic flows affecting your location.
There are many other changes that might allow us to appeal your rateable value. If you are not sure whether something might affect your property or not, please let us know about it anyway. It only takes a minute or two but it could make a significant difference to your rate liability.
